Winter is here! Winter is here! Winter is here!
Okay… almost here.
Which means its time to start indulging in ‘winter foods’.
We are yet to pull out the warm clothes, snuggle under the blankets or switch off the fans. But there’s no denying the nip in the early morning air. And the beautiful winter produces adding pops of colours on the roadside arts and in the supermarket aisles. Winter produce is a different level altogether making it the time of the year to indulge in the greens.
Winter in my part of the world is a short-term love affair – it lasts a week or two and then poof! But that’s all right. We’ve all learnt to the make the most of the slightest hint of chill.

After all, there’s nothing better than sitting in the balcony watching the winter sun go down with a hot cuppa in your hands.
And when I say cuppa, I don’t mean traditional tea or coffee. There’s no replacing the caffeine fix but occasionally, the soul needs something different, something sweet and refreshing.
A homemade Orange Ginger Tea is the perfect drink for these times and a great way to enjoy some fresh oranges. I love oranges and want to put them in everything… there are oranges on the study table, for breakfast, in juices and cakes too.

The Orange Ginger Tea is the orangey-thing closest to my heart.
Technically, the Orange Ginger Tea is not really a tea – there are no tea leaves or powder involved. But the sweet citrus flavours and the spiciness of the ginger make it a brilliant replacement if you don’t want more caffeine in your system.
I was introduced to this drink by an aunt and I’ve been a fan of it since. A perfect pick-me-up, this easy to make drink can be sipped on any time of the day and served to guests too. If you are already planning the December parties, consider this as a drink to be served.
