Wash the dal and set aside. Heat water, add the dal and bring it to boil. Keep skimming the surface to remove the froth. Once all the froth is removed, add ½ teaspoon each of salt and turmeric. Cook till the dal is soft and has broken.
In a kadhai or pan, melt the ghee. add the onion, ginger and garlic – cook till the onion is translucent.
